Sometimes, most of us wonder, why our children are dreading to participate in any activities even though they are good at them. This is because the fear of failure. The thought of failing breaks the confidence of most kids. It is important for us as parents, to help them overcome this fear.
The main reason for this fear is peer pressure. If a child perceives himself to be unattractive, weak, poor or unpopular, he or she usually fears failure. Such children usually think that if they participate in something and if they fail, people will laugh at them and the conclusion is that they should stop trying.
There are many ways in which we as parents can help them overcome their fear.
There are some children who absolutely refrain from taking part in school and extra curricular activities because they are frightened to take the risk of failure. The associated isolation from friends totally haunts them and ultimately defeats their self-esteem.
Parents should teach their children that any fear should be faced positively and bravely. They should encourage their children to keep trying and should tell them that it is alright to fail. The experience is more important than the consequence and failure is always followed by success.
Parents should try and explain that failure is a part of life and that every person has faced it sometime in their life. They should give examples of some successful people and narrate the hardships they faced before achieving success.
It is very important for a child to understand that success and failure are two sides of the same coin and where there is one; the other will follow, no matter what the circumstances are. Parents should help them adopt a positive attitude towards failure and prepare them to face life fearlessly and courageously.
